Professional Development Workshop

3D Printing for the Classroom

3d printers are an incredible resource - they can produce parts with almost limitless complexity, can harness a range of materials and are safe enough to use in a classroom. Unfortunately they are slow, require software and hardware skills and can suffer from failures, each of which can see them relegated to a cupboard.

This class will teach you how to keep your printer running smoothly and give you the skills and tools to create educational models, jigs, prototypes and moulds to increase your classroom efficiency and allow your students to create next level projects in safety.

The workshop is a mix of theory and practical with the morning session focused on the fundamentals of printing technologies - how they work and their common problems then moving on to the sourcing and slicing of printable resources and how to print them effectively. In the afternoon you get to use jigs to make awesome wood creations, mould with wax, silicone, plaster and come home with a bunch of resources ready to liven up your classes.

Next Session: Monday 17th October @ The Workshop, Queenstown

Classroom Tools

In our work with NZ Technology Teachers we identified that students need precision affordable tools, jigs and fixtures to create high quality wooden works using only hand tools (power tools are not allowed for early stage students). In response we have created a growing suite of tools currently being used in Schools. If you don't find a specific tool for your class below, get in touch!
